RESPECT TO CENOTAPH

LACK IN WELLINGTON RETURNED SOLDIERS' REGRET [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Regret that insufficient respect was being paid to the War Memorial Cenotaph in Lambton Quay by people as they passed was expressed by members of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association. A letter was read from the secretary of the Navy League stating that travellers had declared to him that the attitude of people toward the Cenotaph in Wellington compared * most unfavourably with that of people passing the London Cenotaph. The association decided that steps be taken to try to bring the matter before the general public and to circularise the schools and university in the Wellington district on the matter. During the discussion some members gave shyness as a reason for people not raising their hats when passing the Cenotaph.
