ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY

ELECTION OF OFFICERS Afc the annual meeting of the astronomical section of the Auckland Institute and Museum, the following officers were elected :• —Patron, the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison; president. Professor P. W. Burbidge; vice-president, Mr. A.. G. Lunn; committee, Messrs. P. Chambers, C. H. Hinton, G. Knight, J. McMahon and L. G. Wilson; feon. curator of instruments, Professor P. W. Burbidge; hon. auditor, Professor H. W. Segar; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. G. Jones. It was reported that eight lecture meetings were held during the year, and were well attended. The observatory had been open on fine Tuesday evenings, and a larger number of visitors than usual attended. The meeting carried a resolution congratulating Professor Burbidge, who is at present in England, on having been president of the society for 10 years, and wish, ing him every success in his work at Cambridge.
