NEW MOTOR FUEL
USE OF CHARCOAL GAS Charcoal gas was used recently by * ( farmer, Mr. A. L. Creek, of Corrigin, to run a motor-car, -which did a 100-fflil# journey to Perth on a bag of reaching a maximum speed of 40 mils* an hour. The car was started on petrol, which was used for about a mile. When su®" cient charcoal gas had been generated the petrol was cut oil by releasing one accelerator, and charcoal gas was used by pressing anothor. The gas was drawn through a cleaner and conveyed by a hose under the floor of the car to the engine, where it passed through two cleaners and a small radiator behind the fan to an auxiliary intake manifold. Mr. Creek said the loss of about 20 per cent in power was offset by the economy of the charcoal, and that extra power would bo obtained whe/i necessary by using the petrol accelerator.
