CONDITIONS QUIETER

Conditions were quieter, with a more narrow range of inquiry, on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. In Stato Joans buyers' chief interest lay in bonds, offers for which were unchanged. A parcel of 1938 4i per cents was taken unchanged at £96 15s. Tho 1941 4j per cents udxvanced on sale to £96 ss, the last transaction over a month ago being at £95 10s. There, was practically no demand for stock issues and sellers had only slight representation. Business was done in 1933 jier cent unchanged at £96 10s. Banks were inactive, although there was a slight forward movement in levels. This was marked in the case of New Zcalands, which were sought 2d higher at 43s Sd and were quoted at 44s 6d, a rise of 9d. New South Wales, which were again available at £29, were sought 2s 6d higher at £2B 15s. Quotations for Commercials were a shade firmer, but offers dropped slightly. There was a steady demand for insurance, supplies of which were limited. Although South British were sought 6d lower nt 625, offers for New Zealands rose by 6d to 47s 9d. Australian Provincial changed hands 3d higher at 8s 9d and Queensland had sale 3d lower at 51s 9d.

Loading industrial issues were firm, Fellers being unchanged in the face of slight buying advances. Auckland Gas was released unchanged at 21s Id, when offers were increased by Id to 20s lOd. Levels in Colonial Sugar were unchanged and business was done again at £54 2s 6d. Accommodating movements in Farmer§' Fertiliser led to a sale unchanged at 15s 3d, while Union Oil was taken at 25s 6d, also an unchanged price. The only business in mining was a salo _ cf Golden Dawns Is lower at 2s ' Waihis were available 3d lower at 21s 9d, prompting a rise of 2d to 21s in offers. Buyers of Waihi Junctions did not follow the market when holders quoted 4d higher at 4s; offers at 3s 6d were Id lower. Mount Lyells showed no change on tho bidding.
