SCIENTIFIC EXPEDITION

TRIP TO NEW GUINEA COLLECTIONS FOR AMERICA On a research expedition to New Guinea, which they have heard of as a veritable paradise for tho zoologist and botanist, Mr. Richard Archbold and Mr. Austin L. Rand are passing through Auckland by the Lurlino on their way to Port Moresby. Their expedition is being made on behalf 'of the American Museum of Natural History, for which they will make a collection of birds, mammals and plants. "We have heard a lot about New Guinea and are keen to see it," Mr. Archbold said. "I understand that it is still possible to seo native life as it existed centuries ago before European civilisation spread to the Pacific. We hope to be able to penetrate into tho interior in search of hidden native mysteries."- v Another passenger on the Lurlirie who proposes to visit New Guinea is Mr. Gordon A. Sinclair, a Canadian author and journalist, who has recently published a book on India. He may accompany the scientific party for a time and he hopes to obtain material for a book on native life in New Guinea.
