LLOYD BARRAGE
IRRIGATION IN INDIA SUCCESSFUL FIRST YEAR (Received February 10, 6.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY, Feb. 0 The Lloyd barrage at Sukkur, India, lias now been open just over a year, during which time practically all the main canals have been in operation. In spite of the difficulties in changing from the old inundation system the first year's results have been satisfactory. The total area irrigated before and after the main south-west monsoon is nearly 2,030,000 acres, an increase of 166,000 acres over the pre-barrage average. Sales of land in the barrage area are proceeding satisfactorily and extensive railway and road developments have been or are being undertaken.
