Sir, —Each week living conditions are becoming more difficult. Taxation is increasing until one wonders how and when it will all stop. It is becoming more ap. parent every day to the great bulk of thinking citizens in New Zealand that all their spending power is going to two sources, viz. (1) moneylenders domiciled outside this country; (2) for the upkeep of a most extravagant Public Service. If both these drains to the community were reduced to half, as they should be during the present crisis, the citizens of this fair land would have a little more to live for. The interest paid on loans made in good times can now buy twice the amount of butter for the same sum why should this be 1 Equitable.
