HEATHER CUP CONTEST GOOD WIN FOR IDA VICTORY'S SECOND PLACE CLASS A (first-class yachts), first prize. Heather Cup and miniature, presented by Mr. G. R. Hutchinson, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, and £l4: second, £7; third, XI. The start of the most important race of the day was marred by Ngatoa, and lorangi being over-anxious and crossing the line too soon. Both were recalled. Ngatoa losing 30a and lorangi lm 30s. Of the actual start. Rawene was first away, closoly followed by Ariki, Victory, Moana, Ida and Prize. Ariki soon'overhauled Rawene on the lead to the Bastion, the order rounding this mark being Ariki, Rawene. lorangi. Victory and Ngatoa. It was a beat to the Duder's Spit buoy, Ariki maintaining her load with Rawene still in closo attendance. Returning to the harbour again, Ariki had worked out a substantial advantage, and, at the eastern, tide deflector, was 7in 5s ahead of Rawene. The times at this mark were:—Arilq. Ten boats got away to a good start,headed by Oreti. with Speedwell. Kotuku. Janet and Dorothy in close attendance. All tho boats, with the of Kotuku. kept near the northern shore, Kotuku standing further in the channel. On tho lead to the Bastion, Queenio headed the fleet, and, making the turn at the eastern tido deflector, was leading Oreti by sim. Tho times of tho boats at this stage were:— Queenie, 12h 19m 30s; Oreti, 12h 25m Os; •Kotuku. 12h 25m 445; Janet, 12h 28m 31s; Wairiki, 12li 29m 10s; Ariel, 12h 30m 15s: Dorothy, 12h 32m' 15s; Gloriana, 12h 39m 10s. On the lead to the beacon off Islington Bay Queenie, Oreti and Kotuku maintained their advantage, but Janet was overhauled by Wairiki and Speedwell.

Only five boats started and were led over the line by Maybelle, with June, Valdora, Loloma and Vanora next in order. Sixteen boats faced the starter, Wakatere crossing the line first., closely followed by Waimea, Wattle, Whippet, Waoine and Wairiki. Wakatere drew away from the rest of the fleet, but. toward the finish, ehe was almost overhauled by _ Wahine, only one eecond separating the pair at the finish. ROSS CUP CONTEST IRON DUKE THE CHAMPION CLASS X (Jellicoe class).—First prize, £2, Ross Cup (handicap), Lipton Cup (championship); second, £l. Rangi got the best of the start and next to her came Iron Duke, with Aileen, Shirley and Desert Gold in that order. Rangi led almost round the course and was overtaken by Iron Duke toward the finish. Tho race started at 1 p.m. Tho finishing times were:—lron Duke (3m), 2h 43m 525; Rangi' (3{m), 2h 45m 13s; Shirley (8m), 2h 47m 12s. Desert Gold and Aileen retired. Tho result on corrected times was:—Shirley. 1; Iron Duke, 2; Rangi, 3. The Lipton Cup was won by Iron Duke, and tho Ross Cup by Shirley. AQUATIC CARNIVAL NAVAL MEN'S SPORTS Much interest and amusement were caused by the aquatic carnival held for sailors and marines of H.M.S. Dunedin. The greasy boom naturally aroused a good deal of humour. The results were as fdlows:— Diving. Plain or Shallow.—Aljle-seaman Broad, 1: Sergeant Upßon, 2; Able-seainan Malcolm, 3. TAURANGA MIDGETS Two races were held for Tauranga 7-footers over a triangular course off Devonport. The finishing times were:— First Race (championship).—lona (scr), 3h 31m; Weona (scr), 3h 22m 30a; Midget (scr), 3h 22m 455. Tho result was:—lona, 1; Weona, 2- Midget, 3.
