MOTOR-CYCLE RACING
DOMINION TOURIST TROPHY,
ANNUAL EVENT TO-DAY
Tho third annual New Zealand Tourist Trophy race for motor-cycles will be held over a distance of about ICS miles at Waiheke Island to-day, when keen competition is expected. Competitors will include representatives from Southern centres, and the race is particularly important, since it has been announced that tho two riders to represent New Zealand at the International Tourist Trophy at tho Isle <?f Mnn next June will be chosen from the competitors at WaiheL© to-dfiy. During the past week a number of local riders have been practising at Waiheke, and good lap times have been recorded. Conditions are difficult, host-ever, and a high degree of skill is essential. Riders will ' bo required to cover 25 laps of an ordinary road courue, which will be closed to traffic, while the race is in progress. The course includes a hilly section, several windingportions, and one or two long, straight stretches where the faster- machines should attain over SO miles an hour. Last year the race was won by A. Mattson, the New Zealand cinder-track champion. wh.le S. Moses was second. Both riders, who now have later machines, have entered fur to-day's event.
