WAITEiVI ATA CLUB'S RAGS SUBSCRIPTION TRIAL FOURS The Wairemata Boating Club was the only one q£ the harbour rowing clubs on the water ::or trials on Saturday, in, spite of the fact that an inter-club race for the Barrett Cup was scheduled to take place. All the otner clubs had regatta men at Hamilton or they considered it would not he to an oarsman's advantage to row so close to a regatta. Waitemata rowed off subscription, trial fours and the winner went over the course with a crew from the University Club to take the Barrett Cud. In that manner a trophy race that has, had to be postponed several times was counted out of this year's programme. The crow that now holds the Barrett Cud is C. Thompson, G. W. Ross, J, O'Hanlon. P. L. Hayes. Five Waitemata crew<j entered for subscription trial fours. The races, held under the lee of the Tamaki Drive, were in excellent water and the club's usual hard contests were witnessed. The starter was Mr. T. Marshall, and the judge, Mr. J. K. Hunn. The crewii in the first heat were: V. Corbett, C. S. Francis. N. C. Mason. D. R. Gordon: C. Thompson, G. W. Ross. J. O'Hanlon, P. L. Hayes: R. B. Smith. A. Ross, R. Stables. R. L. Coughlan. Thompson held the lead to the reef, followed by Smith. (Smith drew up here, but Thompson held his adversary to half-a-length at the post. The second heat crews were. K. G. Barker L. N. Ross. G. L. Franks. J. P. Hooper; E G. Ware.' 0 W. Denison. S. >. W Cook, H. J. Lawrence. Right up the course to the reef the two crows were not separated. BaTker. then took the lead, but Ware's four sprinted past to win by a 6 The' crews in the final were those of Thompson and Ware._ and they were close together for some distance. At the reef, however. Thompson had a three-auarter length leac!. Ware's crew here put in its burst and out down the gap to half-a-length. This was Maintained to the post. AUCKLAND LADIES* CLUB CREWi? TO COMPETE TO-DAY Three crjws from the Auckland Ladies' Rowing Club will be racing at their first regatta at Hamilton this afternoon. The course is :i. half-mile one. from, bridge to bridge, and the contestants will row in the Hamilton Club's pair-oar clinkers. The crews, which have been training during the pust week, are Jackson (stroke). Miss E. Waters: Miss V. Brant (stroke). Miss I. Waters; Miss L. bpee) (stroke). Miss P. Mac Lean.
