BOY'S FATE AT CAMBRIDGE

BROTHER ATTEMPTS RESCUE EXHAUSTED BY EFFORTS [krom our own correspondent] .'CAMBRIDGE, Thursday A drowning accident occurred in the Waikato River at Cambridge about three o'clock this afternoon, the victim being Jack Brotnwich, aged 14 years, who was swimming with an older brother, Harry Bromwich, just above the Duke Street wharf. Harry Bromwich also narrowly escaped drowning when trying •to save his brother.

The boy got into difficulties in rapid water and his brother dived t? his aid, but was unable to hold the lad above water and he immediately sank. He was not seen again, although another bather, lan Ferguson, dived almost as soon as he sank.

Harry Bromwich was exhausted by his efforts and was barely able to clutch an overhanging willow and drag himself to the bank.

Dragging operations were commenced by the police within half-an-hour, bu' two hours later the body had not been re covered. ,

The boy was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs. T. J. Bromwich, who recently arrived from Auckland and bought a bakery business at Cambridge.

FATALITY IN WATERHOLE BOY LOSES HIS LIFE [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] BLENHEIM, Thursday A boy, Alexander Reid, aged 9 years, son of Mr. J. Reid, farmer, of Grassmere, was drowned in a waterhole yesterday. The boy got out of his depth.
