LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL
NO ADDITIONS AT SESSION PRESENT STRENGTH SUFFICIENT [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WELLINGTON, Tuesday No appointments will be made to the Legislative Council until after the present session, according to a statement by the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes. The membership of the Council is now 22, and the opinion of the Prime Minister is believed to be that it can quite well function on its present strength for some time. Another appointment will be made to the Cabinet after the session, and it is likely that the rearrangement of portfolios and appointments to the Council will more or less coincide. The Prime Minister is holding the portfolio of At-torney-General only temporarily and there is a likelihood that this portfolio will be given to someone in the Council, either a present member or a new one. "We have far too many important questions in hand to worry about additions to the Upper House," Mr. Forbes remarked when asked what the immediate intention was concerning increasing the strength of that Chamber.
