VISITORS DEPART

SOUTHERN TRAINERS' TEAMS EL MERIT FOR ADDINGTON INDIANAPOLIS' DERBY WIN Several visiting horses who took part on the first two days, of tin) Auckland Trotting Club's Summer Meeting left for tho south yesterday, and their finnl day's programme was cancelled. Trainers who departed were: C. Dunleavy, of Addington, with Country King, Wilnm Dillon and the Great. Northern Derby winner Indianapolis, G. N. Mauritz, of Addington. with Taxpayer; .T. Bullock and J. B. Pringle, of Hawera, with Arabond, Tccla and \Vill3how. El Merit, the other member of the Corrigiuj team, went to Adding ton in charge of Dunleavy, and wilt be taken over by E. C. McDermott, * owner-trainer of Garner and Flying Cloud. El Merit, who did not display her true form at the local meeting, will be trained by McDerniott, who may either lease or purchase her. May Chenault, stable-mate of Taxpayer, was not taken south by Mauritz, the mare having been leased from Mr. J. R. McKenzie by R. A. McMillan, the Tll luahere ownertrainer. She will, accompany McMillan's team home at the conclusion Of the Auckland meeting. While Dunleavy was disappointed over the displays of Wilma Dillon and Country King, he was elated, at the success' of Indianapolis in the Derby. As the three-year-old was still favouring his injured leg after the race it was thought. advisable not to start him again at the meeting. E. C. McDermott, who drove Indianapolis to victory, stated yesterday that it was only after a consultation between Mr. G. J. Barton, Dunleavy arid himself that a final decision was made .to let Indianapolis fulfil the Derby engagement. He expressed the opinion that if the trainer, \V„ J. Tomkin£on, had been present and found the horse unable to stand a sound work-out he would not have started the three-year-old at the , meeting. He was also of opinion that the elow pace set for the _ first mile suited Indianapolis, allowing him to find his feet and warm np to his job. If the pace had been sound from the start his charge would have been scratching early and left with a lot of ground to make up over the final stages. However, Indianapolis was such a determined horse there was no telling what he might have gone even then to get the others at tho finish. SALE OF MARBLE STAR PURCHASE FOR HAMILTON Tho Australian-bred trotter Marble Star changed hands yesterday morning, being purchased from Mr. R. Millen by Mr. C. G. Johnston, of Hamilton.
