FIRE AT PUTARURU

BAKEHOUSE DESTROYED ADJOINING PREMISES SAVED [from our own correspondent] PUTARURU, Thursday A fire, which broke out at 10.30 last night, totally destroyed the bakehouse of Mr. G. Radd, Kensington Street, Putaruiu. Mr. Radd and his assistants left the premises at 8 p.m., when everything seemed secure. The building was of wood, and without a water supply it was impossible to save the building or contents. A willing band of workers formed a bucket brigade and concentrated on saving the adjoining house and storeroom. Neighbours removed the furniture from Mr. Radd's dwelling and the neighbouring tearooms. It was fortunate no wind was blowing otherwise it would have been impossible to save the other premises. The building was owned by Mr. Bear, baker, of Rotorua. It is not kndwn whether it was insured. Mr. Radd, however, is a heavy loser, as the contents were not insured.
