PAYMENT OF RATES
TUAKAU SUGGESTION EXAMPLE BY BOARD MEMBERS [FROM OCR OWN con respondent] TUAKAU, Tuesday A suggestion that members of the board should set a good example to ratepayers in the payment of rates was made by Mr. W. J. Taylor at a meeting of the Tuakau Town Board last evening. The matter of arranging for a bank overdraft for the remainder of the financial year was being discussed when Mr. Taylor remarked that if rates were, promptly paid there would he no need for an overdraft at all. Mr. Taylor said most of the ratepayers left- their payments until shortly before the imposition of the penalty. He did not know who had paid or who had not. but he thought it would be a good idea for board members to pay early as an example. Further improvements to the public swimming pool were discussed. Subject to the Tnupiri Dairy Company, owners of the land adjoining the pool, giving consent, it was decided to enlarge tlie pool. Plans of a building for a ladies' dressing shed were also approved.
