RACECOURSE FATALITY
APPRENTICE JOCKEY KILLED HORSE FALLS IN EXERCISES [by telegraph—rßESS association] PALMERSTON NORTH, Monday An apprentice jockey, George Douglas Urwin, aged 18, was killed instantly yesterday when his mount slipped and fell during exercises on the plough at Hiwinui, Ashhurst. The animal fell on its side, crushing Urwin's hear] and body. Deceased's parents reside at Foxton, RIDER THROWN ON ROAD MISHAP AT ELLERSLIE An apprentice jockey, Charles Thomas Fuller, aged 17, received concussion when he was thrown from a racehorse about 8.30 a.m. yesterday. Fuller, who lives at 69 Oranga Avenue, Onehunga, was exercising the horse on a road near the Ellerslie racecourse when the animal suddenly shied, the rider losing his balance and falling heavily, lie was taken by tho St. John ambulance to the Auckland Hospital. His condition was reported last evening to be not serious.
