G. .Cobbc, Minister of Justice, for the past four years, has retired on superannuation. Mr. Matthews has been 36 years in- the Public Service and as private secretary to several Ministers over a long period of years was one of the best-known members of the secretarial corps. He was associated with the Hon. W. Downie Stewart in the Reform Administration and prior to that was collector of customs at Apia, Western. Samoa, for some years.'
