GOLDEN WEDDING

OTAHUHU PIONEERS Mr. and Mr;:. John Hunt, of Mount Eden, yesterday celebrated the 50th anniversary of their wedding, which took place in the old Church of St. Mary s, Farnell, the officiating clergy being the late liev. Frank Gould, vicar of Holy Trinity, Olahuhu, and the Rev. Thomas F. King, warden of St. John's CollegeMr. Hunt was born at Chatteris, Cam- 1 bridge, England, and left London in 1879 by the ship Ben Nevis for Auckland. Among the 250 passengers were Mr. A. J. Entrican, deputy-mayor of Auckland, and Mr. and Mrs. W. IT. Smith, of-the firm of Smith and Caughev. For 17 years Mr. Hunt was in the service of the lata Mr. John Hail, of Otahuhu, and later removed to the Waimate Plains. During the 27 years there ,he took part in the plans of the Hon. John Brycg for subduing To Wh.iti and Tohu, who organised large gatherings of the natives at Parihaka in opposition to the plans of the Government. When peace was restored Mr. Hunt took an interest in local government, and was chairman of the \\ annate West County Council, the Manaia Town Board and school committee for many years. Mrs. Hunt is the third daughter of the- late Mr. and Mrs. Win. Absoluni, pioneer settlers of Otalmlni district-. Slio was born at Otahuhu. The. family, comprises two daughters and one son, Mrs. L'\ J. Parker, of Hamilton, Mrs. W• 11. Piper, of Auckland, and Mr. Farley I. Hunt, of St. Heliers.
