SEQUEL TO ACCIDENT
FINE FOR MOTORIST
DANGEROUS DRIVING CHARGE

As a sequel to a collision with a cyclist on the night of August 25 whilo driving a motor-car, Hon Mau was charged today in tho Rotorua Magistrate's Court with driving in a manner dangerous to the public safety. Police evidence was given that about midnight 11. W. J. Dabb was riding a bicycle home on the Whakarewarewa Road, when defendant's car struck the cycle, knocking the rider off. Dabb was confined to hospital for six weeks. The accident, it was statod, was caused through Mau driving in a negligent manner.
In explanation, Mau said he did not see the cyclist until he was within a few yards of him. He had been travelling at 3-5 miles an hour, but had slowed down on entering the Whakarewarewa Road to 30 miles. He swerved to try and avoid hitting Dabb, but ho caught iiis back wheel, and ho could not avert tho accident. Defendant was fined £2 and £1 12s costs.
