An inquest concerning the death of Joseph Partington, aged 44, who received fatal injuries on Saturday when ho was thrown from a horse-drawn carf at tho Ellerslie racecourse, was held before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., coroner, yesterday. Evidence was given that deceased had been employed for more than five years as a carter at the Ellerslie racecourse. On Saturday morning he was found lying beside an overturned dray. He was badly injured and was conveyed to the Auckland Hospital, where he died. This caused the vehicle to overturn and deceased was thrown heavily on to the roadway. Deceased was a married man and resided with his wife in Harding Avenue, Mount Wellington.
The coroner returned a verdict that deceased died from a fracture of the skull following a fall from a dray which he was driving in the course of iiis employment and which overturned when the horse bolted.
