OUTPUT OF COMPANIES

DARGAVILLE, Monday

Following insistent requests by the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board that in view of tho harmful effect, upon tho butter market in England, the publication by individual dairy companies of figures relating to butter production should bo discontinued, the board of directors of the Northern Wairoa Dairy Company has decided not to release to newspapers tho company's monthly production figures.

A circular letter received by tho company from the Dairy Produce Board in connection with the matter draws attention to the harmfulness of individual dairy companies giving publicity to any largo increase in tho output of a particular factory. Further, publication of district or provincial figures also must havo an influenco on the market overseas. These figures were broadcast and were sometimes taken as representing tho Dominion. It was necessary that authentic figures for the Dominion should be published so as to create confidence in the statistics of the industry. This need was fully provided for in tho figures relating to quantities graded, which were published by the Dairy Division and by the monthly circular of complete statistics issued by the board. It is understood that other companies in the district are being approached to adopt the same attitude. Several other companies in the North have decided on a similar procedure.
