DRESSED AS WOMAN
DEVICE OF THIEVES A man dressed as a woman is believed to have been one of the thieves who drove in a car to the office of Messrs. Lloyd and Cross, building contractors, at Kendal, Westmorland, late one night lately, opened the door with a duplicate key, and got away with a safe containing £IOO, which should have been paid in wages the next morning. The night watchman states that two persons were in the car. One of them said lie was Mr. Lloyd, a partner in the firm, and asked for Mr. Coope, the managing director. While the watchman went for Mr. Coope the office was opened and a safe removed. The key used was one which had been missing from the office for a fortnight. The police all over the north of England were at once notified by telephone, but no trace has been discovered of the thieves. " I have never seen Mr. Lloyd, so I did not suspect the man," the watchman said. " The other person, who, I think, was a man in women's clothes, never spoke."
