RACING IN MELBOURNE

CUP MEETING CONCLUDES W. DUNCAN SUSPENDED KUVERA WINS FISHER PLATE GAINE CARRINGTON SECOND (Received November 6, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 6 A sensation was caused at Flemington yesterday, the last day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, when the leading jockey, W. Duncan, who won the Melbourne Cup on Peter Pan on Tuesday, was suspended for three months. The sentence was imposed after the Flemington Stakes, in which Duncan rodo Hall Mark into second place. It was alleged that ho crossed too sharply after going a furlong and interfered with Kinfauns and Johannes. At the Rand wick carnival last month J. E. Pike, who had a run of success similar to that of Duncan, suffered the same penalty for coming in too quickly on the field. Hie "weather was dull and there was a large attendance. Turbine scored a comfortable in the Batman. The rider, M. McCarten, had won the race previously on Cathmar and Ramulus. The trainer, J., King, prepared Cathmar. In a great finish in the Flemington Stakes L'Elite won narrowly from Hall Mark. Limarch (N.Z.), third, spoilt an excellent chance by running about near the finish. L'Elite is a stable-mato of the consistent Scalpel. Kuvera, who was fifth early, finished brilliantly to win the C. B. Fisher Plate. He is trained by the former New Zealander, George Price, who won with Veilmond last year. Gaine Carrington (N.Z.) made a good effort for second. The apprentice, E. C. Britt, rode the winner. Cimbrian, ridden by E. Baxter, led al! the way in the V.R.C. Handicap and won for the second successive year. Ho is trained by the former New Zealander, L. Robertson.
