THE PROSPECTS REVIEWED FENDALTON HANDICAP FIELD [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday Fine weather is again promised for tomorrow's races, and the track will be even faster than on Saturday. The Middleton Handicap, a high-weight event, will take the place of a hurdle race, and recent race and track form points to the prospects of Some Toff, Elude and Night Flyer. All the two-year-olds nominated accepted for the Irwell Handicap, and most support will probably be given to Guarantee, Fracas and Cheap Money. Class is strongly represented in the field for the Criterion Handicap, and there should be some even betting, with a preference for Cricket Bat, Great Star and Ranelagh. Chile, who will in future be trained by A. Goodman, of Trentham. was the only withdrawal last night from the New Zealand Derby field. There is no doubt that Silver Scorn will be again a short-priced favourite. There does not seem to be another canddate likely to trouble her. La Moderne. Rocket, Minstrel Lad and Tout le Mond will also each have a following, but the final selection will probably be Silver Scorn, Minstrel Lad and La Moderne. In the Fendalton Handicap, Gay Crest, 9.6, and Fast Passage, 9.1, headed the list, but both were withdrawn, as were Minerval, 8.3, and Shatter, 7.11. Two newcomers. Red Heckle and Ramo, will lend interest. Korokio will probably be selected as first choice, and if she is kept under control she should keep the opposition busy. Red Heckle always races prominently the first time up at a meeting, and he is very well just now. The likely favourites are Korokio, Red Heckle and Ramo. The biggest field of the day will parade in the Randolph Handicap, and in what appears to be an evenly-balanced field, a likely trio comprises Aga Khan, Normandy ond Purse. The day's concluding event, the Epsom Handicap, should provide an interesting race, and provided that Some Toff is not reserved the final issue may be confined to Earthquake, Rational 11. and Water Power. Some of the riders in the Derby will be:—Tout Le Mond, A. E. Didhnm; Silver Ring, D. O'Connor: Rocket, L. G. Morn*; Drum Fire, B. H. Morris; Silver Streak, B. H. Brodie; La Moderne. L. J. Ellis; Silver Scorn, A. H. Eastwood.

FIRST NEW ZEALAND .CUP WIN CHOKEBORE STABLE SUCCESS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHTJECH, Sunday When Fast Passage won yesterday it was the first time a representative of the Chokebore stable had ecored in the New Zealand Cup. Singularly enough few horses carrying the Clifford colours have competed in this race. Fast Passage also recorded the first stable win in the Winter Cup last August. Sailor's Hope has produced two good ones to The Ace in Waterline and Fast Passage, and it is unfortunate that another mating with him was not practicable owing to his removal to Opotiki. Sir Charles Clifford adopted the next best thing by sending the mare to Straightcourse, one of the Ace's best eons and a half-brother to Winning Hit. STRUCK BY FLYING CLOD SHATTER'S RIDER IN CUP [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday It transpires that there was a sound excuse for poor showing in the New Zealand Cup. Shortly after the start his rider, L. J. Ellis, received the full force of a flying piece of turf in his left eye, and his sight was seriously affected throughout the race. Ellis said he whs unable to see at all at some stages and was of littlo use to his mount, who steered an erratic course in consequence, and got into trouble 011 more than one occasion.
