Eastwood performed the "hat trick" at Riccarton on Saturday, riding Silver Scorn in the Spring Plate, Worship in the Lincoln Handicap, and Fast Passage in the Isew Zealand Cup. At EUerslie on Saturday Iv. Voitre was also on three winners in successive flat races, Royal Artist in the Mitchelson Cup, Princess Doreen dead-heat for first in the Welcomo Stakes, and Carfcx in the Gordon Handicap. Voitre is now at the head of the winning jockeys' list with 22 wins. L. J. Ellis is second with 14 and A. 11. Eastwood third with 13. TWO-YEAR-OLD WINNERS SOLD CHEAPLY AS YEARLINGS The two-year-olds Diatomous and Princess Doreen, who dead-heated for first in the Welcome Stakes at EUerslie on Saturday, were both sold cheaply at the yearling sales at Trentham last January, Diatomous being purchased by Mr. M. Millar, of.Palmerston North, for G5 guineas, and Princess Doreen by the late Mr. W. G. Stead for 70 guineas. Diatomous is still owned by his purchaser, but Princess Doreen was passed on to Mr. S. E. Ilill, of Wellington, eeveral months ago tor 250 guineas. Diatomous and Princess Doreen belong to families that have been well in the limelight in recent yea is, and both are bred to gallop fast. The leading lines of their pedigrees aro as follows: — Diatomous (18), by Diaequenod, son of Diadumenos and grandson of Orby, from Spangle, by Martian, son of Marligon and grandson of Eend Or, from Nantes, by Stepniak. Spangle is a full-sister to Marsa, the dam of Nightmarcb Princess Doreen (2). by Chief Ruler, son of the Tetrarch and grandson of Roi Hcrode, from Doree, by Luculks, son of Aid Patrick, from D'Oro, by All Black, son of Gallinule and grandson of Isonomy, from Aurarius, bv Mnlster. Princc-ss Doreen has won three races in four starts_ and her winnings now amount to £475. Diatomous has had only one start and his share of the stako on Saturday was £2lO.
