TO-DAY'S PROGRAMME
FIELDS AT ELLERSLIE LIST OF THE ACCEPTANCES KING EDWARD MEMORIAL REVIEW OF THE PROSPECTS The Auckland Racing Club's Spring Meeting will be concluded at EUerslie today, when tlie chief races will be the King Edward Memorial Handicap and the Epsom Handicap. Tho fields in the jumping contests are not .strong, but the other events have tilled well, and another interesting day's sport is promised. The rain that fell on Saturday night has had no other effect than to ease the track slightly, and unless there is a. further downpour the going should again be excellent. Followiilg are details of the fields, with a review of the prospects in each race by Archer:—. 12.2 NORMANBY HANDICAP, Of £200; 1 mile st. lb. st. lb. Princess Bede 9 2 Ruling King . 7 7 Jonathan . . . 8.12 Booklttw ... 7 0 Carfex 8 8 Catch 'Em . 7 0 Aesculus . . . 711 Consort ... 7 0 Holly Lu ... 7 10 Demyhis ... 7 0 Bugle Call . . 710 Jewl'd Girdle 7 0 Deiruin .... 7 9 Muster Norval 7 O Good Run ..79 Mahkill .... 7 0 A rise in weight should not prevent Carfex und Good Run from again racing prominently, while Jonathan and Aesculus should both do better in this company than in tiie Great Northern Guineas. Holly Lu, Delrain and Bugle Call read best of the others, although Catch 'Em may bo dangerous if tho track is soft. Horses who may find favour are JONATHAN CARFEX GOOD RUN. 12.42—MANUKAU HURDLE RACE, Of £300; 2 miles st. lb. et. lb. Lucess .... 10 12 Royal Visitor 9 10 Luminary . . 10 12 Patutahi ... 9 9 Advance Camp 10 (i Slump .... 9 0 Claremore . . 10 3 Royal Visitor is well seasoned after his recent racing and should be difficult to boat. Claremore has not had much schooling lately, but ho is nicely placed and should make his presence felt. Lucess. Luminary and Advance Camp aro all possibilities, but have not raced for some months, and may not appeal as much as Patutahi, who registered a creditable eecond on Saturday. The main fancies may include ROYAL VISITOR CLAREMORE PATUTAHI. I.27—EPSOM HANDICAP, Of £300; 0 fur. st. lb. st. lb. Golden Wings 910 Gold Day ... 7 8 Tradesman ..92 Soloist .... 7 0 Tea Trader ~86 Tctrarclinto • 7 0 Gay Lap ... 8 1 Sister Em ..70 Greek Gold . 711 Valuation ..70 Tho three-year-olds Tea Trader and Greek Gold read nicely placed and should both run well, especially Tea Trader, who will only requiro to reproduce the brilliancy ho displayed in tho Guineas to take considerable beating. Golden Wings should again race prominently, ami tlie likeliest of the others may be Gold Day and Gay Lap. The favourites nay be TEA TRADER GREEK GOLD GOLDEN WINGS. 2.I2—KING EDWARD MEMORIAL HANDICAP, Of £500; li mile 3 st. lb. st. lb. Antique ... 911 Lord Val . 711 Hunting Cry . 9 9 Great Emblem i 11 View llalloo 812 Ghromadyne . 7 8 To Hoia ... 8 0 Tiger ism . -.73 King's Archer 8 0 Gay Cockade 7 2 Gibraltar . .7 13 Flying Prince 7 0 Val roe .... 'lll Liineen • .• • • 1 ( > Gold Trail . . 7 11 Psychologist 7 0 Speedmint . . 7 11 The three top-weights should all run solid races, and at the weights View Halloo may prove the best of the trio. To Hoia and King's Archer may bo oapaolo of solid efforts, but they do not appeal as much as Speedmint, who finished very fast in tho Flying Handicap. Speedmint is rapidly regaining her best form, and should bo ready to run a very solid 10 furlongs now. Great Emblem looks like being very difficult to beat, and Gold Trail should also bo ivorthy of serious consideration if J- M. Cameron starts her in preference to Hunting Ory. Popular farcies may be SPEEDMINT, VIKW HALLOO. GREAT EMBLEM. 2.S2—ONEHUNGA STEEPLECHASE, Of £200: about 3 miles st. lb. st. lb. Neil 10.12 John Bull ..98 Mashoor ... 913 Carlaris ... 9 0 Absent .... 913 Cat-i-mes ... 9 0 Absent and Neil heat the others so easily on Saturday that it appears as if they will again account for them, even though they havo increased weights. The likeliest improver may be John Bull, who shaped very creditably for a beginner on tho first day. Investors will probably follow form and support NEIL. ABSENT. 3.37—MUSKET STAKES, Of £230; two-year-olds; 5 fur. st. lb. Bt. lb. Midian .... 8 5 Alignment ..80 No Doubt ..81 Deputy Ruler 8 0 Wait and See . 8 1 Weatherwise . 8 0 Gay Seton ..80 Spiral 712 Gay Sheila ..30 Enjoyment ..79 My Money ..SO Form in tho Welcomo Stakes points to Wait and See having the best prospects, as she was a close fourth after going fast early. Midian did not have the best of luck on Saturday, and should do a lot better here. Gay Sheila is another who should go well, and No Doubt is also a likely improver. Alignment, Weatherwise and. Deputy Ruler will bo having their first race and, although they are speedy, may be troubled by lack of experience. The best supported may be MIDIAN, WAIT AND SEE, GAY SHEILA. 4.22—H0850N HANDICAP, Of £200; 7 fur. st lb. ft lb. Black Songster 9 5 Bellfoppor ..70 Palace .... 812 Courthaven ..70 Karangapai . 811 Gay Marigold 7 0 Lord Aintree . 8 7 Glenhaupo ..70 Puss Moth ..87 Norval Tea ..70 Vrolyxo .... S 7 On Approval . 7 0 Woodful .... 8 6 Roman Mascot 7 0 Roval Gallant 8 G Supreme Ruler 7 0 Pelting .... 710 Sweet Whisper 7 0 Lucid us .... 7 9 Traced .... 7 0 Moonfleet ... 7 2 Booklaw ... 7 0 Thero are a number of improvers engaged and the issue is decidedly open. The four horses at the top of the weights should all go well, while Puss Moth and Woodful may bo the best of the others above the 8.0 mark. Pelting and Lucidus are both in great heart and should be very dangerous, while Moonfleet should account for most of those lower down. Good support may be given to LORD AINTREE. LUCIDUS. PELTING S.I2—LIVERPOOL HANDICAP, Of £300; 1 mile et lb. fit lb. Huntingdon . 9 0 Baroscope ... 8 5 King's Archer 9 0 Pomp 8 2 Chrysology ..90 Cynthia N. . . 7 10 Gold Trail . . 812 Easter Time . 7 9 Lnp Prince . 8 9 Llanore ... 7 7 High Comedy 8 5 Horses with speed like Huntingdon and High Cornedv should fco well in this company. and at the weights they may be preferred to Chrysology and King's Archer. Gold Trail must have good prospects if started, and the best of the others appear to be Baroscope and Pomp. Some who may find favour are HIGH COMEDY, HUNTINGDON, GOLD TRAIL. TWO HORSES DESTROYED PERSHAM AND HIATA There were several casualties among the horses competing ?t EUerslie on Saturday, when Pershain and lliata had to bo destroyed and Trouble went amiss while contesting tho II uri I era' Steeplechase. Persham ruptured a blood vessel when racing in the Shorts Handicap and, after tailing off and almost pulling up in the straight, he collapsed in front of the grandstand. A veterinary examination indicated that Persham was bleeding inwardly and, aa it was thought that he would not last long, he was promptly destroyed. Persham was a, four-year-old gelding by Lackham from Persis, and he was a. useful performer over short courses, his most notable victory being achieved in the Takapuna, Plate last year. The other horse to meet his destruction was Hiata. who fractured a fetlock about three furlongs, from home in the Gordon Handicap. Hiata was an aged gelding by Hyllus from Waiatapai. and he had been racing for several seasons without being able to win his way out "of the hack class. Good things were expected of him when he began racing, but his form failed to reach expectations, although ho won several small races.
