OVERLOADED LORRY

CONTRACTOR FINED ■ [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Saturday A croam cartage contractor, Herbert William L ee, was fined £1 on each of three charges arising out of the overloading of his lorry, in the Hamilton Police Court yesterday. The traffic inspector, Mr. R. Metcalfe, said he met defendant on the Raglan deviation carrying a heavy load of fencing battens. He directed him to put tho lorry over tho weighbridge in Hamilton, but took tho precaution to mark the lop battens on tho load. Ho lost sight of tho lorry on tho road in, and on arrival at the weighbridge found that defendant had jettisoned part of his load. Even then tho vehicle waa much overweight.
