ROADING WHATAKAU BLOCK

GOVERNMENT ATTITUDE [BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORnESPOXPENT] TAURANGA. Saturday The Hon. C. E. Macmillan, ActingMinister of Public Works, in acknowledging a letter from the Land Settlement League regarding the road in the Whatftkau block, stated that, from particulars before him, there did not appear to be any real urgency at present for the expenditure of any money on this road, especially when it was remembered that after the Whatakau block was opened up the land would not be producing; much for the next two or threo years. Probably at a later date, when the block had been developed to a reasonable extent, the Government might be justified in assisting with the improvements requested by the league. The league has decided to write to the Unemployment Board submitting Mr. 11. Watkinson's scheme for laud settlement, and asking when funds would be available for settling the lands indicated in the scheme.
