STRUCK BY TRAM

BLIND MAN AND GUIDE PREVIOUS SIMILAR ACCIDENT Exactly a month after a similar accident in Broadway, Newmarket, a blind man and guide were knocked down by a tramcar yesterday afternoon. The guide, Mr. Charles Cook, aged 65, of 92 Grafton Road, received concussion, but the blind man, Mr. F. McFarlane, of 227 Hobson Street, escaped .with • minor injuries and shock. The accident occurred shortly after two o'clock in Hobson Street, just below the Wellington Street intersection. Mr. Cook had offered to guide Mr. McFarlane across the 6treet. Traffic was fa'rlv dense at the time, and Hie two men were struck by a city-bound tramcar. A St. John ambulance was summoned and the injured men were taken to the Auckland Hospital. After attention in the casualty ward, Mr. McFarlane was able to return to his home, but Mr. Cook was admitted. His condition last evening was not serious. It was on October 4 that a member of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind, Mr. William Buckley, and a pedestrian who was guiding him across the road, were struck by a tramcar in Broadway. Mr. Buckley received serious injuries which resulted in his death the following day. His guide's injuries were comparatively slight.
