HOT DAY IN THE CITY
FINE SUMMER WEATHER MUCH MORE HEAT IN THE SUN Gloriously fine summer weather was experienced in Auckland yesterday. There was summer heat in the sun, and light summer clothing was conspicuous in the streets of the city. The maximum temperature in the* shade in Queen Street yesterday was 76 degrees, and, as there is every prospect of the weather continuing fine the beaches should be well patronised during the week-end. The fine weather of the past few days has been a welcome change after two or three weeks of unsettled conditions. However, while there was a definite ment early in the week,- the heat of the sun was tempered by a south-westerly breeze. There was only a very light breeze yesterday and during the lunch period, between noon and two o'clock, the eastern side of Queen Street was bathed in hot sunshine, with rot a breath of wind to benefit those who still wore heavy clothing. By a coincidence, November 4 last year was also a gloriously fine day, on which a maximum temperature of 81 degrees in the shade was registered in Queen Street. There followed a spell of three weeks of warm summer weather, slightly humid at times, due to the prevalence of light northeasterly winds. What little wind there was yesterday was light from the north-east.
