THE WHANGAREI CLUB [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Friday In spite of light rain yesterday morning, the official opening of the Whansnrei Lawn Tennis Club was held in the afternoon in beautiful weather. There was an attendance of over oni l hundred membeis, visitors from other clubtt, and friends, and the fourteen grass courts were fully occupied all the afternoon The president, Mr. P. Hteffinson. congratulated the club and the ground superintendent, Mr. D. J. Thomson, in particular, on the excellent appearance of the courts and the gardens. Mr. Higginson also presented the trophies won last season. During the afternoon a progressive tournament was held. The first round was won by li. Carter und Miss B. Wilson, and the second round " l>y R. S. Pinch ivnd Miss I>. Morrison. The final was won by the former pair (i , 6—4.
