A CUT
BY A DOCTOR A young man caine in with a nasiy deep cut. on his finger. He had done it some hours earlier shaving and had put a pieco of adhesive plaster straight on to the skin to stop it bleeding. When ho tried to show it to me it was extremely painful for him pulling the adhesive off, and when after a time he got it off it started bleeding again. If you cut your finger, first of all put it under the cold water tap and let it get well washed. Then place a small piece of lint, or gauze enough to cover the cut. Then take two pieces <>f adhesive plaster, one about an inch longer than the other, and place the two sticky surfaces together in such a way that only half an inch of the sticky surface of one piece is uncovered at either end. Now fix the sticky end to the skin well away from the cut, and wrap the strip tightly round the finger, so that as you wind it round you tend to bring the edges of the cut together. With the last turn the adhesive plaster will bo held fast by the exposed sticky half-inch at its end. In this way you can at any time remove the dressing without opening the cut and starting it off bleeding.
