TE RAP A ACTIVITIES

PREPARING FOR AUCKLAND SUEI-EDITOR JUMPS WELL [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Saturday Several interesting gallop's were recorded at Te Rapa this morning, by horses claiming engagements at the'. Auckland Racing Club's meeting. The plough, which was in cood order, was the track mostly used by trainers and practically all tho fast work was performed there. Particularly pleasing wer* this efforts of Limex, Baroscope and Pelting, three members of A. Tinker's team, while the jumping of Sub-Editor was one of the features of tlie morning's work. Pelting, with his trainer, A. Tinker, in the saddle, and Princess Bede, with only a light-weight up, covered five furlongs in 1.31. Princess Bede held a slight advantage at the finish, but Pelting was doing it nicely. Princess Bede is all the better for her racing at Avondale and although she has a good weight next Saturday she should give a good account of herself. Chang (Mclnally) and Wilton (J. McLaughlin.) covered five furlongs in 1.5 and there was little between them at the clone. This wan only the second gallop that Wilton has had since being taken up again by C. Carmont, sen., and under the circumstances he went very well. Vaipai (Bentley) and Beau Irish (Falkner) galloped five furlongs, but were not timed. Vaipai easily defeated his companion who, however, haa only recently, rejoined A. P. Brady's active brigade. King Win (J. King) worked freely over aldisi.anee, but was not after time..

Valuation (Long) led Baroscope (Tinker) for the greater portion of a 6ix-furlong trial, but the latter was alongside hife companion at the finish in 1.19. Baroscope has been something of a puzzle to his connections lately, but will be difficult to beat next time he is produced fit on the day. Paganelli worked at a steady pace over a distance and Mclnally had his hands full to restrain him. As a result of striking himself Paganelli ha 3 been a little tender in one of his fetlocks, but this morning he hit out freely and pulled up well. After doing strong work over a distance Te Hoia, Illuminagh and the three-year-old Vnlkyrian gelding in A. P. Brady's stable 3 sprinted homo the last threo furlongs in 40s. To Hoia and Illuminagh finished abreast, clear of their companion. Te Iloia has thrown off tho symptoms of unßound ness which caused his last-minute withdrawal from the Avondale Cup, and, if ho stands up to his work during the week, will tako his place in the Alitchelson Cup field.

There was not a great deal between Sammy and Phenomenon at the conclusion of 6ix furlongs run in l.fi. Looking bright and well after his successful southern trip. High Commissioner, with Tmirihi as a companion, was allotted serviceable work and appeared anxious to increase the pace. Limex pleased by defeating Persham by a length in a five furlong trial that occupied 1.5. Persham is scarcely at his best yet, but all the same it was a good effort on the part of Limex. who should be a good proposition for a hack race shortly. Welcotno Lu ran five furlongs on the course proper, where tho flags were out GOft., in 1.7 2-5. Thiß filly, who has shown promise, will probably be started next at Whangarai.

Tradesman was restricted to steady work, covering a circuit on the plough at medium pace. He moved very smoothly and is in great order after his recent racing. It will not be on the score of condition if he fails at Auckland, but weight might stop him. Royal Visitor (T. Mcßie), Suh-Editor (A. Gilmer) and Trowbridge (W. Rennie) jumped six flights of hurdles in tho course of a rousing gallop of about 1} miles, SubEditor had a slight lead most of the way. but about five furlonjrs from home Trowbridge jumped to the front, only to be eased up shortly afterwards, the other pair finishing on terms. All jumped well, but Sub-Editor's display was tho most impressive. REHANDICAPS FOR CUP DENIS BOY AND LIBERAL (Received October 30, (5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 30 Rehandicaps for the Melbourne Cup, to be run on Tuesday, arc as follow«.—Denis Boy. alb., making him now top-weight, 9.2: Liberal. 3lb„ making 7.0. weight-for age.
