BOYS' GYMNASIUM
ALL SAINTS', PONSONBY ANNUAL COMPETITIONS HELD There was an attendance of 150 at the annual display and competitions of the All Saints' Gymnastic Club, Ponsonby, last evening. The vicar, the Rev. W. W. Averill, presided. The prizes were presented by Mrs. Archdall, wife of the Rov. If. K. Archdall, headmaster of King's College, who was also present. The gymnasium was commenced four years ago by Mr. C. G. Palmer and several other King's College old boys and has been of considerable benefit to boys in Ponsonby. There are now about 50 lads in the classes. During the evening a presentation was made on behalf of the parishioners and parents of the boys to Mr. Palmer, who is temporarily relinquishing charge of the gymnasium, as he is going io England early next year. In his absence the instructors will be led by his brother, Mr. J. E. T. Palmer. There are seven instructors in all. of whom five are old boys of King's College and two of the Grammnr School. The results of the competitions were:— Seniors. —Horizontal Bar: L. Finer and J. MacHardie, 1. Roman rings: J. MacHardie, 1; L. Finer, 2. Parallel bars and vaulting horse: L. Finer, 1; J. MacHardie, 2. Boxing championship: R. Harris. Gymnastic championship, Archer Cup: L. Finer. In tho junior competitions places were gained by B. Thorburn. D. Culpan, J. Murray, H. Mac Donald, M. Boles, I. Culpan and H. Shilling. The junior gymnastic championship for fhc Palmer Cup was won by B. Thorburn.
