FLOWERS THAT BLOOM
QUEENSLAND PAINTINGS s « At the annual exhibition of the. Royal Queensland Art Society this year exhibits were more numerous than ever, nnc'l there was a big increase in the number of artists exhibiting. Strangely enough,' there was a preponderance of paintings of flowers; yet though the brilliant scarlet Poincietta has been adopted a:3 Queensland's national floral emblem, not one of these decorative shrubs appeared in any picture. It would seem that Brisbane artists have a "Ja"caranda complex," as more than 40 of the 200 pictures shown depicted, either as the main subject or as an incidental, the wonder* ful Jacaranda tree in iull bloom.
