WANGANUI LADIES' TOURNEY AUCKLANDER IN SEMI-FINALS [FY TELEGRArH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WANGANUI, Thursday Following up lier two qualifying rounds of 80 and 85 by means of -which she topped the list of those qualifying for match play in the Wanganui ladies' provincial golf championship, Sirs. G. F. Ferguson (Auckland) continued to play excellent golf to-day, when she played her "way into the semi-finals. In the first round to-day Mrs. Ferguson defeated Miss Smart (New Plymouth), 3 and 2, and in the afternoon won from Miss Gurrie (Wanganui), 3 and 1. How even her game has been at Belmont is shown by the fact that to-day her morning rojind was 82 and her afternoon round 80. Lack of local knowledge cost her strokes at critical stages, otherwise her rounds would have been even better. This is the first occasion on which Mrs. Ferguson has played on the Belmont course. In l«ia afternoon Mrs. Ferguson was three down at the turn, j\liss Currio going out in 38 to her opponent's 42. Mrs. Ferguson won the 10th and 11th to square the match at the 12th. She lost the next, but won. the 14th. 15th and 16th, getting a birdie 4 at the 17th to win 3 and 1. She has reduced her handicap to 4. Mrs. Collinson beat Mrs. Ptout in tho afternoon, winning after a strenuous tussle, in which she was three down at the turn. Mrs. Collinson went the round in the afternoon in 79, tho best of tho tournament so far. The semi-finals on Friday morning will see. Mrs. Ferguson play Mrs. Gilbert and Mrs. Collinson piny Mrs. Russell.
