SUICIDE BY DROWNING
" THIS CANNOT GO ON » BODY WITH STONE ATTACHED A verdict of suicide by drowning was returned by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., coroner, at the inquest yesterday afternoon concerning the death of Jarries Symons, aged 60, waterside worker, whoso body was found in the harbour inside the eastern tide deflector at Mechnnics' Bay on Sunday. Deceased was single and resided in Hardinge Street, Freeman's Bay. It was statod in evidence that deceased had met with several accidents and was in very frail health. When he left his homo last, at 6 a.m. on Friday, in search of work, ho seemed depressed and kept saying, "This cannot go on." He had never threatened to commit suicide. A rock weighing about 561b, was attached to the body by means of wire and a leather strap fastened round the waist when tho body was taken from tho water by tho police. There wero no marks of violonce.
