TRAIN FOR TRAMPERS
SECOND SUCCESSFUL OUTING
EIGHT HUNDRED TAKE PART
The second "mystery hikers' train" left the Auckland railway station a few minutes after nine o'clock yesterday morning, carrying more than 800 passengers. The destination, which was disclosed aftel the departure of tfye train, was Fernleigh station, 40 miles from Auckland on the Waiuku branch line. Conditions were ideal for the day's outing, and an attractive locality for lunch was chosen on the beach at Sandspit. A train consisting of 17 carriages and two engines was utilised for the transport of the travellers.
The trampers disembarked at Fernleigh, and walked along a route already decided upon to Sandspit, where arrangements had been made for an adequate supply of hot water. After a rest, and ono or two hardy swimmers had had a bathe, tho tramp was continued back to tho township of Waiuku. The return train was waiting there, and the travellers embarked for Auckland about four o'clock.
