HOT WATER ON FARMS
requirements for milking
POWER BOARD'S OPPOSITION
[from our own correspondent] TE AWAMUTU, Saturday
The Te Awamutu Power Board at its meeting yesterday considered tho Dairy Division's requirements in tho provision of adequate boiling water for milking machine plants. After considerable discussion, tho following resolution was carried and a copy will bo forwarded to tho Minister of Agriculture: —"That this board considers tho requirement "of tho Dairy Division regarding tho quantity of water required for various-sized cowplants is unnecessary, and it is unreasonable to expect power boards to give the required extra heating capacity at th o samo charges as at present; that, if tho Dairy Division will reduce tho quantities of water required, tho board will endeavour to solve tho problem of making available a reasonablo supply of boiling water at conclusion of milking, but this will mean an increased charge to tho consumer. It is, however, considered by the board that the time is most inopportune to press for any measures that will entail an additional financial burden on the farmer." It, was contended that under the division's requirements' consumers in tho To Awamutu Power Board's territory would bo penalised to tho extent of providing new equipment in many cases, while the board, besides having to instal heavier wires, switches and transformers, would have its peak load shifted from early evening to between noon and 1 p.m., increasing the peak, which would involvo an additional payment of about £2500 per annum by tho board to the Public Works Department.
