WOMEN'S DIVISION
THE FARMERS' UNION Mangawara.-—The Mangawara branch of the division met recently, Mrs. McGregor presiding. Mrs. and Miss Landon, who were hostesses, dispensed afternoon tea, and provided a musical programme and competition, which were much enjoyed. Musical contributions were made by Mrs. McGregor, Miss. Hammond (Ailckland), Miss Gurr (Auckland), Mrs. and Miss Landon. The hostesses also ran the exchange table, fining all _ non-selling members. This stimulated considerable interest, and helped to swell the branch funds. Morrinsville.—At the monthly meeting of the branch letters of thanks were received from v the Sunshine League for gifts of clothing, and from Mr. R. A. S. Browne for a gift from the division in recognition of his kindness in giving several lectures arid demonstrations. Mesdames Jenner and Marx were appointed representatives to the Housekeeping Auxiliary meeting, to be held in Auckland. Three new members were enrolled. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent by the members in community singing and songs by Mesdames Scales and Forsyth were appreciated. In the competition for the prettiest buttonhole, the prizes went to Mrs. Sexton (1), Mrs. Swayn (2) and Mrs. Wilcox (3). The exchange stall did brisk business. The Kercone ladies provided afternoon , tea. Mrs. Pole acted as accompanist for the musical items. Ohaupo is the latest district to form a branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. At a wellattended meeting, convened by Mrs. L. Cowley, brief addresses were given by Mrs. Lamhio (president of the Cambridge branch), Mrs. F. J. B. Ryburn (president of the Te Awamutu branch) and Miss Marshall, South Auckland provincial executive president and organiser. After further brief discussion, it was unanimously decided to form a branch of the division at Ohaupo, with the following officers for the first year:—President, Mrs. L. Cowley; vice-presidents, Mrs. C. J. Pierce; secretary and treasurer, Mr 9. G. H. Whyte; committee, Mesdames R. Parker, Frost. A. Karl, C. O'Connor, G. Hogan and Callesen.
Te Aroha.—The members of the Te Aroha branch met. recently. A report of the July conference held in Wellington was read by the president, and Mrs. Jackson's message was appreciated. Nurse Stewart gave an address on her work in hospital at the Solomon Islands. Hostesses for tea were Mesdames Stewart and Hair. Towai:—Mrs. R. Dawson, president of the Towai branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, presided at a social function in the Towai Hall. Several competitions were held and were won by Mrs. C. H. Callaghan, Miss Edith Ross and Mrs. Atkins. Mrs. Woodcock contributed a solo.
