VICTORIAN BUDGET
DEFICIT OF £1,608,322 new taxation this year MELBOURNE, Sept. lo The Premier and Treasurer of Victoria, Sir Stanley Argyle, delivered the Budget speech in the Assembly to-day. He said the financial year to June 30 had closed with a deficit of £1,608,322. The deficit for the current financial year was estimated'at £851,000. New taxation totalling £299,500 was proposed. An extension of the income tax to bring under the scope of the Act 390,000 additional taxpayers, the exemption to be £IOO instead of £2OO, is expected to yield £232,000. An additional betting tax is calculated to return £30,000, and increased stamp duties £37,500. Taxation reductions are to include 10 per cent drop in the unemployment relief levy.
