DAIRY PRODUCTION

CONFERENCE OF MANAGERS DISCUSSIONS ON QUALITY A conference of the Auckland provincial branch, of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers' Association was held in Auckland yesterday, the chairman, Mr- W. 11 oil is, of Hifiuera, presiding over an attendance of almost 70, including a number of directors of factories. An examination of dairy produce handled at the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company, Limited, was conducted, the general opinion being that the equality of the produce for the present spring was in advance of that for the. 1931 spring. Mr. E. C. Wood, Government dairy produce grader at Auckland, pave an ad" chess dealing particularly with the condition of New Zealand dairy produce as it arrived on the British market. At the conclusion, the managers discussed in committee several methods of production and manufacture designed to bring about an improvement in the quality of dairy produce. LONDON WOOL SALES CATALOGUE CLOSING DATE The Bank qf New Zealand has received the following Report from its London office regarding next week's London wool Bales: The list of arrivals for the sixth series of sales, commencing September 20, closed on September 12. NEW ZEALAND EXPORTS TRADE WITH THE EAST The provision of facilities for increasing the export trado of New Zealand, particu. lnrly to the attractive markets of the East, is the aim of a company which was registered yesterday, the New Zealand Export Traders Corporation, Limited. It is proposed to establish a trading organisation for the purpose, of securing the fullest co-operation between producers, manufacturers, merchants and others who have an interest in the disposal of tbo Dominion's surplus output in the East and other trade centres. The prospectus states that it is intended to establish trade representatives and trade agencies in all overseas marketing centres capable of offering u profitable opening to New Zealand goods, and to establish administrative organisation and clearing house facilities for the expert supervision and control of proper grading and trade-marking, packing and handling of single or bulk shipments of high-grade products to definitely established markets in the East and elsewhere. It is pointed out that nlany of the commodities which New Zealand is best able to produce and export take a very substantial place in the list of imports into China, Japan, the Straits Settlements, the Philippines and the Dutch East Indies, as well us Burma, India and Ceylon. Tt is considered that it would ho - fatal to endeavour to market New Zealand produce under the various existing brands, as this would lead to confusion without ensuring the establishment of any one brand on the market. For that reason it has been decided that all goods marketed by the corporation will be put out under tl'io selected trado mark of "Ilappiland." It will apply to such goods as meat, but. ter, milk, fruit, vegetables, fish, rugs and manufactured articles of all kinds. The encouragement of direct shipping services is ono of the objects of the corporation. Producers and manufacturers are being urged to join the organisation and are being invited to take shares in the corporation, 100,000 ordinary shares of £1 each being offered. An advertisement setting forth the objects of the corporation appears in this issue. AUSTRALIAN PRODUCE (Received September 15. G. 35 p.m.) SYDNEY.
