LADIES' HOCKEY

/ SENIOR COMPETITION GAFFES In spite of showery weather earlier in the day conditions were ideal on Saturday afternoon, when the competitions of the A l,r klan d Ladies' Hockey Association Were advanced a further stage. Iwo senior games were played. In/ the Kiwi-Elgin contest the former had the better of tho exchanges in the first half, although it had tho sun and wind against it. The inclusion of Miss A. Bishop in tho Kiwi forwards _ greatly strengthened the line, for she displayed Very clever stick work and was responsible for four of her side's eight goals. Kiwi was continually on the attack for the greater part of the game, but Elgin, although overshadowed, played _ a good Uphill game. Elgin rtiado the mistake of hitting hard with very little thought for placing of .shots. Misses Francis, Bishop and Grahams were outstanding for Kiwi, while Miss Hooper and Mrs. Old showed up for the losers. Both teams took the field short in the inat'eh between Wesley and Mount Eden. Wesley had to fight hard in the first half ttith the wind and sun against it, but notwithstanding these handicaps appeared to Ipold a distinct advantage. The play in this game was not of a particularly nigh standard, indiscriminate hitting being the weakest feature. Poor shooting cost Weslev several goals, the easiest of shots being missed repeatedly. In the second half Wesley asserted it*elf and gained a good lead to win ultimately by four goals to one. Miss Brodie, Wesley, was prominent throughout in fcpite of receiving very littlo support. Misses White and Saunters were other Wesley players who impressed. The best the Mount Eden team were Mrs. Nash tod; Misses .Lowe, E'-cles and Hoyte.
