bay of plenty times PUBLICATION FOR 60 YEARS [from our own correspondent] TAURANGA. Tuesday The 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Bay of Plenty Times was marked by a social gathering in the Town Hall last evening, when the managingeditor, Mr. W. H. Gifford, entertained past and present members of the staff and their friends. During the evening the Mayor, Mr. B. C. Robbins, in proposing the toast of the Bay of Plenty Times, referred in appreciative terms to thef good work accomplished by the paper since it was started on September 4, 1872, by Messrs. H. jW. Penny and W. B. Langridge. He paid a tribute to Mr. Gifford's enterprise in carrying on the paper as a daily and complimented the editor and his staff on their work in the presentation of a readable and interesting papu\ . Mr. Gifford expressed his desire and determination to maintain the standard of the Bay of Plenty Times.
