UNIVERSITY WOMEN

"A YEAR ABROAD " The Auckland Association of tho New Zealand Federation of University" Women held a social evening for members in the women's common room of the University on Friday evening. Miss A. V. Hay presided. Tho evening was devoted to the subject of " an year abroad,' which was dealt with from different points of view by five chosen speakers. Mrs. Max Cleghorn showed how a year could be spent abroad for tho sum of £350, travelling from New Zealand to England, via Suez, touring the Near East, England and the Continent of Europe. Mrs. Mawson dealt with a trip to Japan. Tho other three speakers fipokc from scholastic viewpoints, Dr. Gladys Montgomery outlining a year abroad for a medical student, Miss Searle a year spent doing physical cultvuro work in Denmark and England and Mrs. Eric Macdonald a year in England doing research work in his^oat Oxford and London. Mrs. Robin Coat.es, on behalf of the members, thanked the speakers. Supper concluded a very interesting evening.
