PLANTING OF TREES

PIAKO COUNTY ROADS WORK BY UNEMPLOYED [FROM OCR OWN- CORRESPONDENT] TE AEOHA, Saturday In accordance with a resolution passed at a recent meeting of the Piako County Council, a start has been made by unemployed workers in planting about 1000 macrocarpa and six different varieties of eucalyptus trees on a portion of Stanley Road near the concrete bridge. The area, which has to be cleared, drained and fenced, comprises about an acre, and the growth of the trees will considerably improve what has in the past been an unsightly piece of ground. The engineer, Mr. B. H. Horner, states that 1000 trees are to be planted further along the road as soon as they arrive from the State forests at Rotorua. About half-a-mile of No. 9 Road, Waitoa, is being planted with similar trees at a place where the road is at present not used.
