OWAIRAKA SCHOOL

EXTRA CLASSROOM NEEDED The view that it was wrong in principle to use the funds of the Unemployment Board for building new schools or additions was expressed by the Hon. R. Masters, Minister of Education, when replying to a deputation from the Owniraka School Committee, which waited upon him on Saturday and urged the need for an extra classroom at the school. Sir. F. B. Watts, chairman of the committee, said the present roll-number of the school was 378 and the average attendance was 331. The school was overcrowded. The Minister said the work had been delayed only by shortage of funds. He did not favour using relief labour as unemployment funds had been raised for a definite purpose. The Minister promised to consider tho request.
