HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST SQUALLY, WITH HEAVY. SHOWERS The following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day, was supplied by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:— The Westerly type of barometric pressure distribution continues, pressure being low over the South Island, and relatively high northward. Expect unsettled Mind showery weather, particularly in western and southern districts. Hail and thunder probable in places near (lie west coast, and snow on tlio southern highlands. Mainly fair to fine in east coast districts. Temperatures will become much colder generally. North-westerly winds, strong to gale, backing temporarily to south-west. Rough seas on the west coast, particularly southward from Cape Egmont. Local outlook: Squally, with, heavy showers, although fair intervals will intervene. Barometer, midnight, steady . . 30.00 in. Midnight, Thursday . . 30.151n. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight,)— Maximum, 61deg.; minimum, 52ci£2. GOVERNMENT REPORT The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows Another rather deep westerly depression, the last of the present series, is now crossing New Zealand. Indications arc. for strong northwesterly winds at first, except in the far south, but a change to strong southerlies moving northward over the Dominion during the next 24 hours. Seas becoming rough on the west coast and south of East Cape; moderate north of East Cape. Tasman Sea: Strong southerly winds, to gales, and rough seas. Weather squally, with showers in most districts, heavy in parts of the eastern and southern districts; hail in places and snow on high levels. Temperatures becoming cold; improving later on the west coast, of tho South Island.
