LONG AIR JOURNEY
GtSBORNE TO HAMILTON • ' ' '1: - .'v CLOUDS AND HEAD WINDS PILOT FOLLOWS THE COAST [BX TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Thursday A protracted and difficult flying trip from Gisborne to Hamilton was experienced to-day by Mr. R. A. Kirkup, of Auckland, who had George Walker,'the wrestler, as a passenger. When the machine left Gisborne at 10 o'clock this morning, the Motu Hills were enshrouded in clouds, and a strong head wind was encountered. The pilot had to follow the coast and was obliged to land in a clear field at liaukokorc, oh the East Cape, to obtain petrol. After an hour's delay the coast was again followed and as the Kaimai Hills were bidden by mist the aeroplane travelled as far north as Waihi before turning inland. It passed over Te Aroha and ar- / rived shortly after three o'clock at the Te Rapa aerodrome at Hamilton, where Mrs. Walker and the wrestler's trainer had been waiting since 10 a.m. The trip to Gisborne and back was the first experience Walker had had in an aeroplane, and he said he thoroughly enjoyed it, in spite of the unfavourable flying conditions to-day.
