WORK ON RESERVOIR

LOCAL BODIES AT VARIANCE HOSPITAL BOARD AND COUNCIL [BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT] GISBORNE. Thursday Tho Gisborno Borough Council received a letter last evening from tho Cook Hospital Board warning the council against tho continuation of work on tjip Taumata Hill reservoir, and threatening action for any damage caused tho board's property and stock. Tho reservoir, which has been under construction by relief labour for somn months, adjoins tho hospital farm, and for some time tho project has been subject to criticism. Tho matter has been brought to a head as tho result of the Public Works Department, which was instructed by tho Loans Board to assume* oversight of the work, ordering an alteration in the method of construction, necessitating tho disposal of a considerable amount of surplus spoil. Tho Hospital Board has objected to tho tipping of this f.poil oil farm property, and has delivered a virtual ultimatum to the council. On tho motion of tho Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.l\, the council decided to reply that if tho board adhered to its attitude the council would take tho land under the Public Works Act.
